(August 21, 2019) — The USDA Forest Service – Allegheny National Forest has completed the routine maintenance and hazard abatement on the Handsome Lake Campground, a boat accessible campground on the Allegheny Reservoir.The temporary closure was necessary for the public’s safety. The Forest Service has been working diligently to update maintenance and address hazards within the campground in order to re-open it as quickly and safely as possible.The Handsome Lake Campground is open effective August 21, 2019.The Forest Service is committed to ensuring that our campgrounds are safe and enjoyable for the public. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we completed the work at all the boat-accessible campgrounds.If you see hazards while camping and hiking on the Allegheny National Forest please notify the ANF – Supervisors Office at (814) 723-5150.
