Allegheny National Forest Reduction in Services at Boat-To Campgrounds; Temporary Closure of Loleta Recreation Area Swim Beach

Allegheny National Forest Reduction in Services at Boat-To Campgrounds; Temporary Closure of Loleta Recreation Area Swim Beach

The recent Allegheny National Forest news release has informed us that, “The Allegheny National Forest’s boat-to campgrounds: Hooks Brook, Handsome Lake, Hopewell, Pine Grove and Morrison, will no longer provide potable water services to campers. Failed water pumps, increasingly unreliable well water conditions and continuing reductions in congressionally allocated recreational funding have not provided the Allegheny National Forest resources to pursue repairs or alternative solutions for continued potable water services at these campgrounds. The Allegheny National Forest encourages any boaters or hikers using these specific campgrounds to either pack in potable water or utilize portable water filtration devices to screen local waters for drinking.”. We would also like to inform you that Loleto Recreation Area swim beach will be temporarily closed until after June 15th.
